WMF Models We Service
The WMF 5000 S+ is a fully automatic machine with twin grinders and options for chocolate or powder and for milk. The 1500 F is a fully automatic machine with internal storage. The earlier WMF bistro machines, the 1500 S, 1500 S+ and 1200 S, are still in daily use, and we repair those as well.
WMF machines show numbered errors, and the number tells us a great deal. Error 88 is boiler over-temperature and Error 89 is a heat-up time error. Error 188 is a heater error. Errors 161 and 9507 are flow errors, meaning the brewing water or the water pressure is missing, and we check the tap, the filter and the pump, then the grind. Error 186 is a steam boiler level problem, often a closed water tap. Errors 9619, 9678 and 9679 say a grinder is blocked, usually by a stone or a foreign object. Error 6 means the brewing unit is stiff or blocking.
Milk, Chocolate and Restarts
On a 5000 S+, milk that foams badly or does not come out may be a kinked hose, an iced milk cooler or the Plug and Clean disc. Error 9083 says the cooler temperature is in the frost range. A blocked chocolate portioner is another call we get.
If an error hangs after it has been dealt with, holding the ON/OFF switch switches the controller off so it can restart, and a mains interruption can also bring up the error list. Hard water scales boilers and lines in Los Angeles, San Diego and Houston, so we check the filter too. We tell you plainly when an older machine is not worth the repair, quote the price in writing first, and give a 30-day warranty on our work.

Error 161 on a WMF: what is wrong?
It is a flow error for brewing water. A closed tap, a clogged filter, low pump pressure or coffee ground too fine can cause it. We test the supply and the pump.
Why does my WMF say the grinder is blocked?
A stone or other foreign object is usually jammed in the grinder. Do not reach in. We clear it safely and test the grinder motor.
