Common Dexter dryers problems

In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.

01

No heat and no flame

02

Flame burns but clothes stay damp

03

Burner lights then shuts off

04

Basket does not turn

05

Takes credits but will not start

06

Coins go in, no response

Dexter coin dryers use a C-Series or O-Series control. When there is no flame, we look at the ignition control, the air flow switch, the fuse, the spark electrode and the temperature probe, in that order. A burner that lights and then shuts off sends us to the ignition harness and the gas valve.

If the flame burns but the clothes stay damp, the cause is usually airflow. Lint screens, ductwork and makeup air all matter, and a laundry room with poor ventilation makes it worse. We also check the gas pressure at the dryer.

A basket that does not turn points us to the belt, the motor and the door switch. A dryer that accepts credits but will not start sends us to the transformer, the door switch and the membrane switch. If coins go in and nothing happens, we test the coin drop. The display uses codes F1 through F5 for temperature sensor and control board problems.

We shut the gas valve before every repair, quote in writing and back our work with a 30-day warranty.

FAQDexter dryers questions
Why does my Dexter dryer have no flame?

The ignition control, air flow switch, fuse, spark electrode or temperature probe can each stop the flame. We test them one by one and tell you which part is needed. Check that the lint screen is clean first.

What do F1 and F2 mean on a dryer?

F1 is a temperature sensor short and F2 is an open temperature sensor. The dryer will not start until the sensor circuit is repaired, and we test the sensor and wiring.

Why does the burner light and shut off?

The dryer may not be sensing enough air, or the ignition harness or gas valve may be failing. We check the airflow first, then the harness and the valve, and we explain what we find before any repair begins.
