Wascomat Washer Error Code 02: Door Open
Code 02 means the control saw the door open while a program was running. Close the door firmly and restart the cycle. If the code returns on a closed door, the door lock or its wiring needs service.
High: the control stops the cycle for safety, and a door-signal problem keeps the washer from running.
What does Wascomat error code 02 mean?
This check only runs during a program. The Compass control reads a closed-door input, and once the program is under way that input is expected to stay on. If it drops out because the door opened, the control stops the cycle and shows ERROR 002 / DOOR OPEN. That is deliberate, since a drum turning with the door open is a real hazard. Because the check watches an input rather than the door itself, a worn lock or a loose connection can produce the same result as a door someone actually pulled open. The code therefore does not tell you whether the door moved, only that the closed-door signal went away mid-cycle. The service manual points to three places to look: the door lock itself, the cable running to the lock, and the lock's edge connection.

Safe checks before calling for service
- Open the door, check that nothing is caught in the seal or latch area, and close it with a firm push until it latches.
- Restart the program and watch whether the code returns at the same point in the cycle.
- Do not tape, wedge or force the lock, and do not run the machine with the door unlatched.
- If it repeats, note when in the cycle it happens and whether the machine was bumped, then call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 02
- Read the code and history, and note whether it appears at start, during agitation or at high spin.
- Inspect the door lock mechanism and strike for wear or damage.
- Check the cable to the lock and its plug connections for looseness or a pinched wire.
- Test the closed-door input to the control with the door held shut to see whether it holds steady.
- Look at the edge connection at the lock and clean or repair it.
- Replace the lock or cable only after the signal test points to it.
- The lock circuit is part of the machine's safety chain, so we do not bypass or jumper it.
- Testing the signal means working at connections behind the panels where mains voltage is present.
- A lock that fails only under vibration needs repeat testing with the machine running.
How error code 02 differs from similar codes
