Wascomat Washer Error Code 03: Door Lock Fail
Code 03 means the door lock did not lock in time after the program started, or the locked-door switch reported unlocked during the run. Close the door fully and start again. If the code returns, the lock or its wiring needs a technician.
High: the washer will not run a cycle while the lock cannot be confirmed.
What does Wascomat error code 03 mean?
After you press start, the Compass control commands the door lock to engage and waits a set time for the locked-door switch to confirm. If that confirmation does not arrive, the cycle is stopped and the display shows ERROR 003 / DOOR LOCK FAIL. The same message appears if the lock confirms at first but the locked-door switch later reports unlocked while the program is running. The control never lets the drum turn on an unconfirmed lock, so this is a safety stop rather than a nuisance alarm. The code does not tell you whether the lock coil, the switch, the wiring or the connection failed. The service manual lists the same three suspects as for the door open code: the lock, the cable to it and the edge connection.

Safe checks before calling for service
- Open the door and look for a trapped sock, strap or lint at the latch and seal, then close it firmly.
- Wipe visible residue from the latch with a damp cloth while the machine is off.
- Restart the program once and listen for the lock engaging before water enters.
- Note whether the lock clicks, whether the code comes at start or mid-cycle, and tell us when you call.
How a technician diagnoses error code 03
- Read the code and error history, and note when the failure occurs relative to the start command.
- Confirm the control is commanding the lock and that the lock responds.
- Inspect the latch, strike and locked-door switch for wear and alignment.
- Check the cable to the lock and the plug connections for looseness or a broken conductor.
- Check the edge connection at the lock for corrosion or poor contact.
- Replace the lock or cable only after the tests point to it.
- The lock and its switch are in the safety circuit, so we never jumper or bypass them.
- Meter work at the lock connections is done behind panels with mains voltage present.
- Telling a failing coil from a failing switch needs measurements, not guesses.
