Wascomat Washer Error Code 09: Klixon
Code 09 means the klixon breaker in the drum motor tripped on high motor temperature. Let the motor cool, reduce the load size, and restart. If the code returns on normal loads, a technician needs to check the motor and its cable.

What does Wascomat error code 09 mean?
A klixon is a thermal breaker built into the motor. When the motor winding gets hot enough, it opens, and the Compass control reads that as ERROR 009 / KLIXON and stops the program to protect the motor. Overheating usually comes from the work the motor does. An overloaded drum makes the motor draw more current, and long stretches at low rpm leave it with little cooling airflow. The manual also lists two electrical causes: a klixon that is itself defective and trips too early, and a short in the cable between the motor and the CPU board. The code tells us that the breaker is open, not which of these reasons applies. Whether it clears after a cooling period is a useful clue, because a motor that was truly hot will recover while a defective klixon or damaged cable may not.

Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the washer off and let it cool for at least 30 minutes.
- Check that the load is within the washer's capacity and remove extra weight.
- Make sure there is clear space around the machine so the motor can shed heat.
- Restart. If the code comes back on a light load, note the program and time into the cycle, and call us.

- Check that the drum turns freely by hand with power off.
