Wascomat Washer Error Code 04: NTC Low Temp
Code 04 means the NTC temperature sensor is reading far too cold, below about -9 C (16 F). In a laundry room that usually points to a sensor or cable problem rather than real cold. Switch the machine off and on once, and call for service if it returns.
Medium: the washer may stop on heated programs, but the cause is usually a single sensor or cable.
What does Wascomat error code 04 mean?
The NTC is a thermistor, a small sensor whose resistance changes with temperature. The Compass control reads that resistance continuously. When the reading rises above about 23.7 kohm, the value corresponds to a temperature below about -9 C (16 F), and the control sets ERROR 004 / NTC LOW TEMP. An open circuit in the sensor, or a break in its cable, looks exactly like extreme cold to the control because the resistance goes very high. For that reason an actual temperature of -9 C is rarely the cause indoors, and the manual does list a machine standing outdoors as one possible reason. The manual's advice is to compare the measured sensor resistance with its table of approximate values for a good sensor. The code tells us the reading is out of range, not which end of the circuit has failed.

What you may notice
- ERROR 004 / NTC LOW TEMP appears on the display
- The program will not heat, or the displayed water temperature looks wrong
- The cycle stops or refuses to start on a heated program
- Cold water programs may still run while hot programs do not
Possible causes
Listed in Wascomat's documentation
- Machine standing outdoors
- Open circuit in the sensor
- Break in the cable to the sensor
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 04 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A sensor connector that has corroded or loosened from steam and detergent exposure
- A cable pinched or rubbed through where it passes the tub or frame
Safe checks before calling for service
- Check whether the washer is installed somewhere genuinely cold, such as outdoors or an unheated porch.
- Switch the machine off at its disconnect, wait about a minute, and switch it on again.
- Try a short cold-water program to see whether the washer otherwise runs normally.
- Do not unplug sensors or open covers. Write down the code and which programs fail, and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 04
- Read the code and the history to see if it is constant or intermittent.
- Measure the NTC resistance at the sensor and compare it with the manual's table of good-sensor values.
- Test the cable from the sensor to the control for continuity and a clean connection.
- Check the sensor plug for corrosion or moisture.
- Confirm the reading at the control changes when the sensor is warmed.
- Replace the sensor or cable only when the resistance test shows it out of range.
- Resistance testing involves disconnecting sensors and probing at the control while the cabinet has live mains parts.
- A sensor reading outside the table is a measured result, and we compare it with the manual values.
- Replacing a sensor on a heated program affects water temperature control, so it is verified under a running cycle.
How error code 04 differs from similar codes
Code 05 NTC HIGH TEMP is the opposite reading on the same sensor: resistance too low rather than too high.

Related Wascomat washer error codes
Can my washer actually be below 16 F?
Only if it stands outdoors. Indoors, code 04 almost always means the sensor circuit is open or the cable is broken.
Can I run cold washes meanwhile?
Possibly, but the control may still refuse to start. We would not rely on a washer that cannot read its own temperature.
What is the difference between code 04 and code 05?
Code 04 means the sensor resistance is above about 23.7 kohm, code 05 means it is below about 350 ohm. One is typically an open circuit, the other a short.
