Wascomat Washer Error Code 20: I/O MCU Interlock
Code 20 means the program controller read from the motor control or an I/O board that the interlock is not active. The display also shows which board is missing the interlock. Check that the door is fully closed, then call a technician if it returns.
High: the machine will not run without the safety interlock signal.
What does Wascomat error code 20 mean?
The interlock is the signal chain that tells the electronics the door is closed and locked. The Compass program controller checks it by reading from the motor control or from an I/O board. If one of them reports that the interlock is not active, the controller shows ERROR 020 / I/O MCU INTERLOCK and also indicates which board is missing it. That detail helps narrow the search. The manual says the I/O board is the most probable source. It lists three causes: a problem with the hatch lock, damaged motor supply cables, and the I/O board's interlock voltage. Because the interlock passes through the door lock and the motor supply cabling, a break anywhere along that chain can make a board report that it does not see the signal.

What you may notice
- ERROR 020 / I/O MCU INTERLOCK appears, with a board name on the display
- The washer will not start or stops when the drum should run
- The door looks closed and locked but the machine disagrees
- The code may appear only under vibration
Possible causes
Listed in Wascomat's documentation
- Problem with the hatch lock
- Damaged motor supply cables
- I/O board with interlock voltage
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 20 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A hatch lock whose switch contacts are worn so the signal drops out intermittently
- A connector at the motor supply cable that has loosened from repeated vibration
Safe checks before calling for service
- Open the door, then close it firmly and check that the latch engages.
- Switch the machine off at the disconnect, wait a minute, and switch it on.
- Start a short program and watch whether the code returns and which board is named.
- Write down the board shown on the display and the program step when it occurs, then call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 20
- Read the code and history, and note which board is reported as missing the interlock.
- Check the hatch lock and its switch contacts for a steady closed signal.
- Inspect the motor supply cables and their connectors for damage.
- Measure the interlock voltage at the I/O board and the motor control while the door is locked.
- Compare readings between boards to locate where the signal is lost.
- Replace the lock, cable or board only after the measurements point to it.
- The interlock chain carries mains-level signals and is part of the machine's safety function.
- Measuring the interlock voltage at each board means working inside the cabinet with power on.
- Identifying the failing board needs the display information and a meter.
How error code 20 differs from similar codes
Code 33 NO INTERLOCK is a related motor control check that looks at the 230 V interlock signal when a run command is sent, while code 20 is reported by the program controller about a board.

Related Wascomat washer error codes
Can I keep running the washer with code 20?
No. The interlock is a safety signal, and the machine will not run without it.
Why does the display name a board?
It shows which board did not see the interlock, which helps a technician find where the signal is lost.
Is code 20 the same as a door error?
The door lock can be the cause, but the code also covers motor supply cables and the I/O board.
