Common Vulcan convection ovens problems

In plain words, the way kitchen and laundry staff describe them when they call.

01

E code on the temperature display

02

Oven will not heat

03

Ignition light stays on

04

Oven overheats

05

Uneven baking from rack to rack

The VC gas convection ovens, including the VC4GD, VC4GC, VC6GD, VC6GC and the HGC5 models, use a temperature control board that displays E codes. The electric VC4ED and VC5ED are common as well, and we service them all.

E1 means an open temperature probe and E2 a shorted one, so we test the probe and its wiring. E3 means the oven asked for heat for eight minutes and the temperature never rose. With the burner on, that sends us to the gas valve, the ignitor and the burner. E4 means the control board has overheated, and a blocked rear air intake is a common cause. E5 and E6 relate to the board’s output, and E7 means no heat signal from the ignition board, which leads us to the gas supply, valve, ignitor and spark gap.

If the ignition light stays on for more than 20 seconds after three tries, turn the oven off, wait five minutes and check that the gas valves are open. Keep the rear air intake clear of dust and grease, which build up quickly in a busy kitchen. We confirm parts before the visit and give a written price before work starts.

FAQVulcan convection ovens questions
What does E3 mean on a Vulcan VC oven?

E3 means the oven has called for heat for eight minutes without a temperature rise. We check the gas valve, ignitor and burner on gas models, and the heating circuit on electric ones.

What does E7 mean on a Vulcan convection oven?

E7 means the temperature board is not getting a heat signal from the ignition board. We check the gas supply, the valve, the ignitor, the spark gap and the flame sensing.

Where is the air intake on a Vulcan VC oven?

The rear air intake keeps the control board cool, and a clogged one leads to E4. Keep it clear, and call us if the code returns.
