Wascomat Washer Error Code 12: Programme Failure
Code 12 means one of the CPU board memories can be defective. The manual says to try reloading the software, and if that does not help, to replace the CPU board. Switch the machine off and on once, then call us.
High: the control cannot trust its memory, and the washer may not run until it is repaired.
What does Wascomat error code 12 mean?
The CPU board of the Compass control stores the program and settings that run the washer. If one of its memories is defective, the control cannot rely on what it reads, and it shows ERROR 012 / PROGRAMME FAILURE. The manual states the cause as one of the CPU board memories being defective, and the remedy as a two-step sequence: try reloading the software first, and replace the CPU board only if that does not help. The order matters because corrupted data can be fixed with a reload, but a memory chip that is physically damaged cannot. Which of the two applies is known only after the reload. The code has no operator fix, because reloading needs the right software file for the machine and the equipment to load it.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- ERROR 012 / PROGRAMME FAILURE appears, often at power-up
- The washer will not start a program
- Programs behave oddly or settings seem lost
- The code returns after a restart
Possible causes
Likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 12 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- One of the CPU board memories can be defective
- Stored data corrupted by a power loss or surge while the control was saving settings
- An aging CPU board whose memory no longer holds data reliably
Safe checks before calling for service
- Switch the machine off at the disconnect, wait a minute, and switch it on again.
- Note whether the display and programs look normal after the restart.
- Do not try to change settings or open the control cabinet.
- If the code returns, write down the model, serial number and any recent power problem, and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 12
- Read the code and confirm it is 012 on a Compass control.
- Check the software version loaded in the CPU board.
- Reload the software with the correct file for the machine.
- Check the supply for disturbances that may have corrupted memory.
- Retest the machine after the reload.
- Replace the CPU board if the code returns.
- Reloading control software needs the correct file and equipment for the exact machine.
- A CPU board swap means working inside the cabinet near mains voltage.
- A new board may also need settings loaded for the machine size.
How error code 12 differs from similar codes
Code 12 is a CPU memory code. Code 24 CHECKSUM FROM DLCU and code 51 CHECKSUM FROM CPU are communication codes between the CPU and the DLCU.
