Wascomat Washer Error Code 21: I/O Communication
Code 21 means the program unit can no longer communicate with one or more I/O boards it communicated with before. The manual points to the internal communication cables and to I/O boards that lost their address. A technician should check the cables and readdress the boards.

What does Wascomat error code 21 mean?
The Compass program unit talks to I/O boards that switch the washer's valves, lock and other outputs. Each board has an address so the program unit knows which one it is talking to. If the program unit loses contact with one or more boards it used to reach, it shows ERROR 021 / I/O COMMUNICATION. The manual lists two causes: a problem with the internal communication cables, and one or more I/O boards that lost their address. Its steps are to check the internal communication cables and to readdress all the I/O boards in the service program, which requires a password. With only one I/O board, the board's service button is held about 10 seconds until its LED goes out. This is different from code 23, where no I/O board is addressed at all.
