Wascomat Washer Error Code 22: Oil
Code 22 means the oil level in the reservoir for oil lubrication is low. The manual says to fill with oil first, and if that does not help, to check the sensor and cables. Check the reservoir level if you can see it.
Medium: low lubricant can wear the machine, but filling often clears it.
What does Wascomat error code 22 mean?
Some Wascomat washer-extractors lubricate with oil from a reservoir, and a sensor watches the level. When the oil is low, the Compass control shows ERROR 022 / OIL. The manual lists three causes: lack of oil, a defective sensor, and a shorted cable. The remedy follows the same order. Fill with oil first, since a lack of oil is the simplest and most likely cause, and check the sensor and cables only if the code remains after filling. Running a machine with too little lubrication can wear bearings and other moving parts, so the warning is worth acting on. The sensor and cable steps tell us the code can also appear when the oil level is fine but the signal is wrong, which is why a technician tests them if refilling does not clear it.

- The oil reservoir looks low or empty
- The washer may refuse to start programs
- The code returns after filling
Possible causes
Listed in Wascomat's documentation
- Lack of oil
- Defective sensor
- Shorted cable
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 22 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A slow oil leak that empties the reservoir between refills
- A sensor mounted loosely that reads low when the oil is actually fine
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look at the oil reservoir level, if it is visible without opening panels.
- If the level is low and your maintenance instructions cover it, top up with the oil the machine specifies.
- Switch the machine off and on and see whether the code clears.
- If the code stays after filling, note the level and call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 22
- Read the code and confirm it is 022.
- Check the oil level in the reservoir.
- Look for oil leaks at the reservoir and lines.
- Fill with the specified oil and retest.
- Check the level sensor and its cable for a short.
- Replace the sensor or cable if the test shows a problem.
- The wrong oil or an overfilled reservoir can harm the machine.
- A leak means finding where oil is escaping, which needs inspection.
- Sensor and cable tests need a meter.
How error code 22 differs from similar codes
Code 22 is the oil lubrication level warning, unrelated to the motor and level codes.
