Wascomat Washer Error Code 54: Tacho, No Set Signal
Code 54 means the DLCU saw tacho pulses from the motor without the CPU's motor-should-run bit. Switch the machine off and on once. If the error returns after a reset, the manual says to change the CPU.
High: the safety cross-check failed, and the washer stops until it is resolved.
What does Wascomat error code 54 mean?
The Compass DLCU is a safety processor that watches two signals which must agree. One is the stream of tacho pulses showing that the motor is turning. The other is the CPU's bit saying the motor should run. If pulses arrive while the CPU has not asked for the motor to run, the DLCU shows ERROR 054 / TACHO, NO SET SIGNAL. In plain terms, the motor appears to be moving without a command, or the command signal is missing when it should be present. The manual lists two causes: cross talk in the CPU circuits and damaged parts on the CPU board. Its remedy is to reset the error and, if it returns, change the CPU. It does not point to the tacho sensor, which is what separates this code from code 58. Before blaming the board, a technician confirms that nothing else is turning the drum while it should be stopped.

Code numbers and their meaning can change between control generations. We match the full model and control before acting on a code.
What you may notice
- ERROR 054 / TACHO, NO SET SIGNAL appears on the display
- The drum is coasting or still turning when the program expects it to be stopped
- The code appears at random moments, not on one program step
- A reset clears it for a while and then it comes back
Possible causes
Listed in Wascomat's documentation
- Cross talk in CPU circuits
- Damaged parts on the CPU board
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 54 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A drum still spinning down when the DLCU ran its comparison, after a sudden stop
- A voltage spike on the supply that disturbed the CPU output for an instant
Safe checks before calling for service
- Wait until the drum has stopped completely before touching the controls.
- Switch the machine off at the disconnect, wait a minute, and switch it on again.
- Run a short program and watch whether the code returns.
- If it does, write down how often it happens and what the washer was doing, then call us without opening the cabinet.
How a technician diagnoses error code 54
- Read the code and history, and confirm it is 054 and not the related 058.
- Reset the error and observe whether it returns on the next start.
- Make sure nothing mechanical turns the drum when the motor is stopped.
- Check the supply for spikes and the cabling for interference.
- Check the connections between the CPU board and the DLCU.
- Change the CPU board if the error returns after a reset.
- The CPU and DLCU form the machine's safety cross-check, so we never disable the comparison.
- A CPU board swap means working inside the cabinet near mains voltage, with the right settings loaded afterward.
- Telling interference from a damaged board takes repeated testing with the machine running.
How error code 54 differs from similar codes
Code 54 is tacho pulses without a run bit, while code 58 is a run bit without tacho pulses.

Related Wascomat washer error codes
Is the tacho sensor bad?
The manual lists causes on the CPU board and does not point to the tacho sensor.
Is code 54 the same as code 58?
No. Code 58 is the opposite case, where the run bit is present but no pulses arrive.
Can I keep resetting it?
One reset is reasonable. If it keeps coming back, the manual says to change the CPU.
