Wascomat Washer Error Code 15: Emergency Stop
Code 15 means the emergency stop switch on the machine has been activated. Check that the red button is released, then restart the program. If the code stays on a released button, the switch or its cable needs service.
Medium: the machine stops by design, and it is usually cleared quickly if the button was simply pressed.
What does Wascomat error code 15 mean?
The Compass control monitors the emergency stop circuit continuously. When the switch opens that circuit, the control stops the machine and shows ERROR 015 / EMERGENCY STOP until the circuit is closed again. The purpose is to let any person cut the machine quickly when something goes wrong. The most common reason is also the simplest: someone pressed the button on purpose or by accident, for example when passing close to the machine. The manual lists two other reasons. The switch itself may be defective and stay open even when released, or the cable may be wrong or shorted so the circuit never reads closed. The code does not tell the control which of these happened, so the first question is always whether the button is out.

What you may notice
- ERROR 015 / EMERGENCY STOP is shown and the machine halts at once
- The drum coasts down and the program stops
- The button is not visibly pressed but the code remains
- The washer will not start a new program
Possible causes
Listed in Wascomat's documentation
- Inadvertent activation
- Defective emergency stop switch
- Incorrect or shorted cable
Other likely causes — what usually sits behind error code 15 on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.
- A switch that has been knocked or shifted and sits partly pressed
- A cable pinched near the switch where the front panel was reassembled after cleaning
Safe checks before calling for service
- Look at the emergency stop button and confirm it is fully released, usually by turning or pulling it out.
- Restart the program after resetting the display as normal.
- Make sure no one is leaning on the switch or that nothing presses against it.
- If the code returns with a released button, note whether the switch feels loose or sticks, then call us.
How a technician diagnoses error code 15
- Read the code and history to see how often it is raised.
- Check the emergency stop switch for a released state and a clean click.
- Test the switch contacts with a meter for continuity when released.
- Inspect the cable from the switch to the control for a short or a mismatched connection.
- Check the connectors at both ends for corrosion or a loose pin.
- Replace the switch or cable only after it fails the test.
- The emergency stop circuit is part of the machine's safety function, so we never jumper it.
- Testing contacts and cables happens at connections near live control parts.
- A wrong or shorted cable can leave the stop circuit unreliable, and it has to be verified under power.

Can I bypass the emergency stop to keep running?
No. It is a safety circuit, and a technician should repair it rather than defeat it.
Why does the code stay after I released the button?
The switch may be defective or the cable shorted, so the circuit still reads open.
Is code 15 a sign of damage to the washer?
Not by itself. It is usually a pressed button, but a repeated code means the switch or wiring needs a look.
