Wascomat Washer-Dryer Error Code 75: Fan Motor Too Hot

Code 75 on the Selecta II dryer program unit means the thermal protection switch in the fan motor, or its harness, is open. This is E 05 in the Selecta II manual. Let the dryer cool and clear the lint path, then call us if it returns.

Medium · inspection needed

High: the dryer stops when its fan motor protection opens, and repeated overheating can damage the motor.

What does Wascomat error 075 / fan motor too hot mean?

The fan motor in the dryer section of the Wascomat WD4130 and WD4240 has a thermal protection switch built in. When the motor gets too hot, the switch opens to cut its power. The Selecta II program unit watches that circuit, and when it sees it open, it shows ERROR 075 / FAN MOTOR TOO HOT, which the Selecta II manual lists as E 05. The same reading appears if the harness between the switch and the program unit is broken, because the program unit only sees an open circuit and cannot tell the two apart. The manual gives no separate steps here and refers the reader to the Selecta II service manual. A fan that runs hot is often fighting a restricted air path, so the cause may lie in airflow as well as in the motor itself.

Possible causes

Likely causes — what usually sits behind error 075 / fan motor too hot on this control. A technician confirms which one it is before any part is replaced.

  • A restricted exhaust or lint buildup that makes the fan motor work harder and run hot
  • A fan motor with worn bearings drawing extra current

Safe checks before calling for service

✓ What an operator can do
  1. Switch the dryer off and let it cool for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Clean the lint filter and check that the exhaust duct is not crushed or blocked.
  3. Restart a short drying program and see whether the fan runs and the code stays away.
  4. Note how long the dryer ran before the code and whether the cabinet felt hot, then call us.

How a technician diagnoses error 075 / fan motor too hot

  1. Read the code and confirm it is E 05 in the Selecta II table.
  2. Follow the Selecta II service manual for the fan motor circuit.
  3. Check the fan motor for free rotation and bearing noise.
  4. Measure continuity of the thermal protection switch once the motor has cooled.
  5. Inspect the harness between the switch and the program unit.
  6. Check the exhaust airflow and replace the motor or harness only after the tests.
! Leave this to a technician
  • The fan motor and its thermal switch are next to heaters and mains wiring.
  • An open switch can come from heat, a broken harness or a worn motor, and only measurements tell which.
  • Exhaust ducting problems may need work outside the machine.

How error 075 / fan motor too hot differs from similar codes

Code 76 DRUM MOTOR TOO HOT is the same kind of protection on the drum motor, while code 75 is the fan motor.

ERROR 075 / FAN MOTOR TOO HOTQuestions about Wascomat error 075 / fan motor too hot
Is it safe to restart right after code 75?

Let the dryer cool first. A hot fan motor can trip again and may be damaged by repeated restarts.

Could a blocked vent cause it?

It can. Restricted air makes the fan motor work harder and heat up.

Is it the same as a machine overheated code?

No. Code 78 MACHINE OVERHEATED covers the protection thermostats, while code 75 is specific to the fan motor.
