Machines that make the ice

This category includes undercounter, modular and countertop ice machines with air-cooled, water-cooled or remote condensers, along with the bins and dispensers beneath them. They supply restaurants, bars, hotels, clinics, convenience stores and senior living kitchens.

Scale is the biggest long-term enemy. It coats the evaporator, narrows water lines and fouls float valves and sensors, and it builds fastest where the water is hard. Heat is the second enemy: an air-cooled machine in a warm back room with a dusty condenser makes less ice and works harder, and salt air near the coast adds corrosion.

What we look at first

We check the water supply and filter, the inlet valve, the pump and distributor, the evaporator surface, the condenser and fan, the bin and the sensors. Scale and sanitation come before parts, because a machine that needs cleaning can look like a failing one.

On older machines we lay out the choice honestly. Pumps, valves, sensors and fans are routine repairs, but a corroded evaporator may point to replacement. Please do not use cleaning chemicals your manual does not allow, and do not chip at the evaporator. Have the model label ready when you call.
